Senior Fire Engineer

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a broad variety of projects for both public and private clients. Our existing project mix is very diversified and includes anything from small extension to multimillion developments. The candidate will have responsibility for all aspects of design and co-ordinate of their projects. For the correct candidate, this will be a both a design role and a client facing role.

You will be required to work on a range of projects, including Commercial, Retail, Hotel, Residential, Educational and Industrial throughout the country. The successful Engineer will be responsible for developing designs and working as part of a team whilst liaising with Clients, Contractors and Design Teams. Reporting to a Director, the candidate’s duties will include taking the technical lead on projects, both carrying out and reviewing/checking designs by others, liaising with Clients, design team and contractor and supporting the growth and development of the Team.

Although not essential, this role would suit an Engineer with experience in as PSDP or Assigned Certifier.

This is an ideal opportunity for a near or recently Chartered Engineer to take a leading role in a developing consultancy and develop their career beyond the role of a project engineer.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years post graduate experience in a consultancy role.
  • A degree in Engineering (level 8 or higher).
  • Engineers Ireland membership, ideally chartered or near chartered.
  • Experience in delivering fire engineered solutions for new and existing building projects.
  • Experience in carrying out fire risk assessments and fire safety audits.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of appropriate Irish fire safety legislation and design guidance.
  • Demonstration a knowledge of the construction aspects of Fire Safety Engineering.
  • Experience in the preparation of disability access applications, detailing, specifying and inspecting the associated works.
  • Good communication skills, especially the ability to translate designs in to comprehensive drawing/information for construction.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the relevant Building Regulations and Technical Guidance Documents.
  • Should demonstrate a level of responsibility taken on projects from detailed design through to inspection of work on site with a knowledge of building control regulations and procedures.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be proactive to the ever changing scenarios experienced in modern construction.
  • Ability to work independently, take responsibility for their own work and take the initiative when necessary.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Competent in AutoCAD skills and Microsoft Office essential and experience of using Revit would be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of Fire Safety and Disability Access Certificate applications.
  • Undertake fire risk assessments and fire safety audits, provide clear and comprehensive reports, construction detail drawings and specifications.
  • Undertake fire safety Engineering design on projects, co-ordinating drafts person as necessary.
  • Carry out negotiations with clients, design teams and local authorities.
  • Manage and meet project delivery timelines while meeting agreed quality and costs.
  • Provide leadership, assist in the preparation of project tenders and fee proposals.
  • Attending and participating constructively in project meetings in house and with Clients, Architects, Surveyors and Contractors.
  • Construction monitoring and reporting.
  • Practise development in terms of both quality, portfolio and clients.

  • The ideal candidate will be an inquisitive, creative, solution-orientated designer.
  • Own transport essential. Must have fluent English and must be eligible to work in Ireland.
